We’ve been making lots of pompoms for our recent corporate projects that we’ve been working on and we can’t stop! Also, because we’ve been seeing fruit inspired accessories and prints everywhere now, we thought we’ll make our own version! Find out how to make our super cute cherry pompom keyring that we use as a bag charm below!
Materials needed for this DIY
- Pink/red yarn (Cherry colour)
- Green yarn (Stem & leaf colour)
- Two crochet mini leaves (We used this free pattern from Mamachee.com)
- Pompom maker
- Keyring clasp
- Crochet hook (Size 5/0)
- Yarn needles (not pictured)
Using the base colour for the cherry, wrap the yarn around the pompom maker.
Cut along the sides of the pompom maker to release the yarn.
When done, you should get something like this. The pompom is almost complete.
Cut a piece of the green yarn about 1m long.
Find the centre of the green yarn piece and tie a double knot, securing the pompom.
Put the two strands of green yarn together, and using a crochet hook, make a loop and start creating a chain about 5cm long. Pull through the rest of the yarn.
Repeat the above steps to get two red pompoms with a green chain. This will make you a set of two cherries and its stem.
Loop the long strand of green yarn into the attachment of the keyring clasp and tie both stems together where the chain ends. Trim away the excess yarn.
Using a yarn needle, sew the crochet leaves onto the stem using its tail.
And it’s done! The cherry pompom keyring is complete.
The cherry pompom keyring makes a great bag charm and really stands out against plain dark coloured bags. It’s super cute and simple to make and we can imagine creating other pompom bag charms of different fruits and patterns.
