You might be wondering how these totes have any relation to IKEA, so allow me to explain. Ros and I are always super inspired and come up with a thousand and one craft ideas and projects every time we make a trip to IKEA. We’re both fans of this particular print by Maria Vinka that adorn products such as napkins, drinking glasses and table runners. Because of the unfortunate (or fortunate!) situation that neither of us have tables to protect, we decide to take this opportunity and turn them into products we would use for the OOH x IKEA Task 4!
Both the tote bag and the drawstring gym bag were made out of one table runner, with additional materials such as cotton webbing for handles, and cotton rope for the drawstring. Of course, we also used a sewing machine to help us with the sewing. Here are super cute illustrated step-by-step diagrams by ros so you can learn to make your own as well!
The Drawstring Gymbag
(also jazzed this one up with an additional inner pocket for things like my mobile phone and keys!)
Hopefully these inspire you to create your own totes and to view items in a different light. The possibilities are endless and we’re not even done with this print! While creating these two bags I came up with so many more possible bag designs we’re going to have to plan another trip down to IKEA to grab more table runners soon. Till our next post! x
